In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Jami Shari'at wa Tariqat Hadhrat Mawlana 'Abd al-Hafeez al-Makki is one of the foremost khalifahs and leading students of the great Mujaddid of Islam, Qutub al-Aqtab Hadhrat Shaykh al-Hadith Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhalawi al-Muhajir al-Madani.
Noble Lineage

A heritage of Iman

Hadhrat's lineage reaches a certain Raja 'Abd al-Salam Malik, who accepted Islam at the hands of Amir Kabir Sayyid 'Ali al-Hamdani— a famous fourteenth century Sufi scholar who had arrived in Kashmir to propagate Islam. Raja 'Abd al-Salam was the ruler of the sub-district of Kuligam, an area surrounding the town of Islamabad in Kashmir.

A life of khidmah & suhbat

  1. 1946 CE

    Born in Amritsar

    Born in pre-partition India, Punjab. His family, originally from Kashmir, had settled in the region approximately fifty years earlier.

  2. 1947

    Partition & Migration to Pakistan

    His family joined the mass exodus of Muslims migrating to Pakistan, settling in Faisalabad (Lailpur), where his early Qur'an instruction began under his paternal grandmother.

  3. 1953 CE· 1373 AH

    Hijrah to Makkah al-Mukarramah

    His father migrated to the holy city of Makkah, becoming a permanent resident and obtaining Saudi nationality in 1380 AH / 1960 CE.

  4. 1954 CE· 1374 AH

    Enrolled at Al-Madrasah al-S'adiyyah

    Began formal religious and secular education in Makkah, having previously studied Qur'an with tajwid under Qari 'Abd al-Rauf of Al-Madrasah al-Sawlatiyyah.

  5. 1964 CE· 1384 AH

    A Year in Tabligh

    Instructed by his father to spend a year in the special company of Hadhrat Ji Moulana Yusuf al-Kandhalawi, author of Hayat al-Sahabah, and Hadhrat Ji Moulana In'am al-Hasan.

  6. 1965 CE· 1385 AH

    Bay'ah with Shaykh al-Hadith

    Became a murid of Shaykh al-Hadith Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhalawi at the direction of Hadhrat Ji Moulana In'am al-Hasan.

  7. 1966 CE· 27 Ramadan 1386 AH

    Granted Khilafat

    At the tender age of twenty, during i'tikaf at Mazahir al-'Ulum's Dar-e-Jadid Mosque, his Shaykh took off his turban, placed it on his head and granted him permission in the four tariqahs — Chishti, Naqshbandi, Suharwardi and Qadri.

  8. 1967 CE· 1387 AH

    Studies at Mazahir al-'Ulum

    Travelled to the famous Saharanpur seat of learning to study the Mawquf 'Alayh portions of the Dars-e-Nizami.

  9. 1968 CE· 1388 AH

    Completed Dawrah Hadith

    Completed the Dawrah Hadith — the final year that Hadhrat Shaykh lectured on Sahih al-Bukhari. Came first in the highly competitive final-year examinations.

  10. 1982 CE· 1402 AH

    Demise of Hadhrat Shaykh

    Until his Shaykh's passing, he remained devoted to his service (khidmah), allowing no preoccupation to keep him from his company (suhbat), especially in Ramadan.

  11. 17 Jan 2017· 17 Rabi uth Thani 1438

    Departure to Allah Ta'aala

    His blessed soul departed to Allah Ta'aala on a Monday, at the onset of an Islahi tour in South Africa.

Scholarly Legacy

Preserving the works of the Akabir

Under the guidance of his Shaykh, and after his demise, Hadhrat dedicated his life to publishing and preserving the academic legacy of the Akabir Deobandi 'Ulama.
